You'd have thought I'd discovered the secret for a COVID-19 vaccine the way they all went on. I didn't think the phrase was that revolutionary but they all encouraged me to write this blog post about 'tumbleweed websites' and explain my analogy.
You've put your heart and soul and your hard earned cash into it hopefully with a great website design company to help you. It looks brilliant, it's user friendly with all the helpful calls to action for visitors and on the day of go live you feel as proud as punch. You throw the virtual doors wide open for business and announce its arrival across your social media channels and maybe in a newsletter to your database.
After the inital excitement of friends and family, employees and business contacts having visited nobody else stops by and you begin to wonder was it worth it. All that hard work. What do you do now?
You've built it and they aren't coming. Where is everyone?
Let me put it another way. If you opened a shop do you think just by stocking it, dressing the windows and opening the doors you would immediately have a line of people queuing up to get in? You'd have to do everything within your power to drive traffic to those doors. Just because this aspect of your business is online doesn't mean it's any different to the rest of your business. In short, be prepared to invest a lot of time and effort into your website if you want it full of customers every single day of the week.
Without that constant stream of customers/ visitors/ traffic your website it rapidly becomes the wild west version of a ghost town.
But we have got your back. When you partner with The Digital Gene to design and build you a website we do so much more than actually design and build. You see, even though the team laughed about my 'tumbleweed websites' analogy, the reason they all got it straightaway is because they all understand the concept and the problems people who come to us have.
We all understand that websites should be built to convert. We build all of our websites with clear goals in mind. We also firmly believe that all websites should have built in SEO as standard. Rather than 'adding on' SEO at the end or once the website is live we build discovery right into the development process.
We educate our clients every step of the way, too. We teach them the basics about blogging for business, SEO tips, Google Analytics for beginners, local search and much more right the way through the build process and in our training once their new website is live.
